HP is past halfway point for latest job cuts

Hewlett-Packard says it had reduced its global workforce by 5% as of Oct. 31, cutting about 17,800 jobs, putting it more than halfway toward its goal of reducing manpower by 8.3% by the end of 2014. The tech vendor also is investigating General Motors' hiring of two former HP managers.
