Inflation adjustments raise minimum wage in some states

A wage gap is growing between states that automatically adjust their minimum wage for inflation each year and those that don't. The average minimum wage among states that make automatic adjustments is $8.12 an hour, compared with $7.40 an hour in states that don't make automatic adjustments. Nine of the 10 minimum-wage increases that took effect on Tuesday were automatic adjustments to inflation.
