Linux-based Ubuntu to compete with Android, iOS

Canonical's Ubuntu operating system, a Linux open-source platform, entered the smartphone OS wars Wednesday with the introduction of Ubuntu for Phones, which is designed to provide handsets with the power of desktop applications. Canonical said that phones supporting the platform will surface near the end of the year.
