Security firms fight to stay on top of evolving threat environment

As computer viruses get more sophisticated and the amount of malware targeting consumers and businesses increases, companies that make and market software designed to block it are being forced to adopt new strategies that are less reactionary and more proactive. Research shows software designed simply to detect and block malicious code fails to do so as much as 95% of the time, a serious shortfall that has given rise to a crop of startups with security software products that scan networks for suspicious activity.
