Employers should prep for federal focus on worker classification

Companies that are concerned that they may have misclassified workers should take advantage of the Voluntary Classification Settlement Program, an Internal Revenue Service program offering employers reduced tax penalties and a chance to reclassify workers, Stephanie Thomas writes. With the increased emphasis by the Labor Department and the IRS on rooting out violators of worker-classification regulations, it's a good idea to "proactively address the issue," Thomas writes.
