Hughes files for Ka-band fixed-satellite service

Hughes Network Systems said last week that it had filed for permission to provide fixed-satellite service to the U.S. market via its Jupiter Ka-band satellite, which it aims to launch by summer. The bent-pipe satellite carries multiple spot beams, and Hughes says it will provide more than 100 gigabits per second of capacity.
