EIA predicts sluggish energy-demand increase through 2040

Electricity demand will increase by only 0.7% for residential users and 0.6% for industrial users through 2040, according to the Energy Information Administration. The weak increase is attributed in part to the economy, as well as the slowing of the U.S. manufacturing sector and the push for more energy-efficient appliances. Some nuclear energy producers are choosing to cut investments in expansion programs as a result.
