BNSF plans to modernize 32,000-mile rail network maps

BNSF is partnering with Bartlett & West to modernize the railroad's map records of its 32,000-mile U.S. network. Some of the maps, dating back to the 1800s, have been updated by hand, but GIS will now be used for accuracy and computer accessibility. "What we're doing is we're taking that old map and we're placing it on the real world," said Mike Flynn, Bartlett & West supervisor.
