Percentage of Americans with military experience is low

The percentage of Americans who have served in the military since Sept. 11, 2001, is much lower than in previous decades, despite the involvement of the U.S. in two wars since that date. The majority of service members have parents who served, leading some experts and military leaders to warn that large segments of the population have very little exposure to the military and the effects of war.
