When the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act in 2012 it added to pressures to train more primary care physicians, and medical schools responded by adding departments of family medicine. The AAFP made graduate medical education payment issues a key focus last year. The year also saw more physicians choose salaried employment over private practice.
