Editorial: Hospitals should address all drug-resistant bugs

The infection-control programs in hospitals should address all sources of health-care-associated infections and not just methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, according to this Seattle Times editorial. Mandatory screening and reporting policies that focus mainly on MRSA will not resolve the bigger problem of multidrug-resistant infections, and more studies are necessary to identify which screening methods would work best for patients, the editorial said.
