New technologies lend flexibility to solar panels

Research and development is underway on a number of innovative new technologies designed to make solar power cheaper and easier to deploy by making components more flexible and efficient. Among the more promising breakthroughs are flexible, peel-and-stick panels being perfected by engineers at Stanford and an advanced solar cell manufacturing process that uses a special dye to eliminate the need for costly semiconductors.
