U.S. set record in 2011 for natural gas output, EIA says

Natural gas production in the U.S. increased by 6.2% in 2011 from the year before, for a record of 28.5 trillion cubic feet, according to the Energy Information Administration. Output from shale reserves increased 46%, to 8.5 trillion cubic feet, with shale accounting for 30% of all natural gas production.
