Officials expect rewrite of NCLB this year

Department of Education officials say they expect a rewrite of the 8-year-old No Child Left Behind law this year, but an exact date is not known. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and other Obama administration officials have promised reform but have focused on encouraging school reform through the Race to the Top competition. "In many ways, [No Child Left Behind] is a compact disc in an iPod world," said Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education. "It's still around, but it is in desperate need of an upgrade."
