Should school meals be free for all students?

Following the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, officials in New York City received a federal waiver to serve free school meals to all students. After the city applied to extend the waiver, advocates began speaking out in support of universal free school meals for all. The state education department so far has been silent on the issue, but advocates are pointing out the benefits from better academic performance to fewer stigmas in schools for low-income students. Still, some acknowledge that funding would be a key challenge.
