North Dakota reports sharp increase in oil production in November

North Dakota produced 510,000 barrels of oil per day in November as drillers ramped up activity in the Bakken Shale formation. The state produced enough oil from its 6,300 wells to supplant energy imports, said Lynn Helms, director of North Dakota's Department of Mineral Resources. "This is big news for the state and the country," Helms said.
