Some of America's most successful companies are shifting to "post-CEO" leadership models that focus on collaborative decision-making by senior managers. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's reliance on Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, and General Electric's senior-management training sessions, show that teamwork is often more effective than top-down leadership. "Ultimately, collaboration is the key to sustained success at any innovative company -- no matter how much employees may admire a single figurehead," writes Doreen Lorenzo.
