Genetics pioneer challenges the "cancer establishment"

The nation lacks a leader in the so-called war on cancer, says James Watson, co-discoverer of DNA's double helix structure. Cancer cells eventually circumvent the effects of drugs that target genetic mutations, and researchers should target features common to all cancer cells, particularly metastatic cancers, Watson said. That cancer research establishments tend to be too conservative is the biggest obstacle to winning the war on cancer, Watson said.
