Edith Windsor, whose lawsuit over the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act will be heard by the Supreme Court, recounts her decades-long relationship with Thea Spyer in this profile. "It was a glorious life. She was a spectacular woman," Windsor says of her spouse, who died in 2009. Windsor and Spyer met in a restaurant in New York City in 1963, when early LGBT activists wore suits and dresses at demonstrations.
