Official raises concerns over China's space militarization

Despite a pledge by Chinese President Hu Jintao with President Barack Obama to promote the peaceful use of space, a senior U.S. defense official expressed concern this week that China's actions indicate the opposite intention. A Chinese air force commander told state media that the militarization of space was a "historic inevitability," and, at a congressional hearing, Wallace Gregson, assistant secretary of defense in charge of Asia, said the U.S. is continuing to press China for an explanation of its actions.
