Target to expand into Canada in deal with Zellers

US discount retailer Target will make its first move into the global retail marketplace with the $1.8 billion acquisition of up to 220 Zellers store leases in Canada, the company said Thursday. Under the deal with Zellers' parent, Hudson's Bay Company, Target will choose from the Canadian chain's 276 stores and will have until 2013 to convert them to the Targets.
