AMA urges independent assessment of EHR incentive program

The American Medical Association has called for an outside expert to evaluate the electronic health record incentive program and wait to strengthen qualification criteria until after doing so. Such an evaluation would identify "measures that make sense and can be reasonably achieved; functionalities that vendors can build into EHRs and the time frame required to build, test and fully implement these functionalities; and meaningful-use requirements that are reasonable for CMS and ONC to propose and pursue," wrote Dr. James Madara, AMA CEO and executive vice president.
