Report: Free lunch programmes help students worldwide

A recent study shows the benefits of schools' free lunch programmes -- operating in about 100 countries -- as a tool to combat childhood hunger and poverty. The study found that such programmes help keep impoverished students in school and help them learn while they are there, increasing cognitive ability and concentration. In addition, the report found that in Turkey, where 1 in 4 children live in poverty, more could be done to provide free meals in schools.
