Analysis: Can the Internet of Things be realized?

Is the Internet of Things, which would bring Internet connectivity to appliances and other consumer products, a genuine trend or just slick marketing? In this analysis, Anders Gustafsson of Zebra Technologies writes that the "big ideas" related to the phenomenon are certainly possible. "While I sometimes hear or read that the Internet of Things is hype, the reality is, it's real. In fact, we are at the tipping point for broader IoT adoption," he writes. Gustafsson notes that the formation of an Internet of Things Consortium was announced at the 2013 International CES.
