The oil industry is ramping up efforts to eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard. Biofuel supporters, however, say that dismantling the RFS would stunt the development of advanced biofuels just as they are starting to achieve commercialization, and would worsen the country's reliance on fossil fuels. "We agree that in order for the United States to achieve greater control over fuel and lower prices for consumers, we need to increase domestic production of energy. But what is 'unworkable' is a continued oil monopoly over our nation's transportation fuel," Fuels America said in a statement.
