Burberry's retail rise offsets wholesale slump

Burberry reported a 13% jump in retail sales in the third quarter, but wholesale revenue from sales to department stores and specialty shops dropped 5%, the company said. Burberry and other luxury brands have been tightening up on wholesale distribution in recent months, largely to prevent potentially brand-damaging discounting by their retail customers.
