Changes to Tricare Prime availability in force as of Oct.

As of Oct. 1, veterans and their families living more than 40 miles from a military base will no longer be eligible for Tricare Prime and will have to switch to the system's Standard option. The change is projected to affect more than 171,000 people nationwide but will not affect active-duty service members and their families.
