EPA releases revised emission standards for RICE units

The Environmental Protection Agency released the final draft of emissions standards for reciprocating internal combustion engines on Jan. 15. RICE units used in generating power for oil and natural gas production will be required to have catalytic controls and a high-temperature shutdown mechanism. Emergency-power RICE units running for 15 to 100 hours and at least 100 horsepower per year are required to give annual reports and to switch to ultra low-sulfur diesel.
