Samsung Galaxy S III ties earlier model with 40 million sales

Samsung Electronics reported that its Galaxy S III smartphone has sold 40 million units in five months, tying the Galaxy S II's total sales. The three Galaxy S models have sold a total of 100 million units for the South Korean phone maker. Samsung was in federal court recently urging all nine members of a U.S. Court of Appeals panel not to ban its Galaxy Nexus phone. That move followed Apple's "en banc" appeal of an October ruling by a three-judge panel that blocked Apple's bid to stop the phones' import for allegedly violating its patents.
