Merkel's party supports eurozone financial-transaction tax

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party, the Christian Democratic Union, agreed to support a financial-transaction tax in the eurozone if it cannot be levied throughout the EU. "We will aim for a quick introduction of a financial transaction tax," the party said in its plan for the year. "The tax should be shaped in a way that the interest of Germany's financial centers will be maintained."
