New nuclear plant in China is on schedule for 2013 start-up

China will start up its first third-generation nuclear reactor in 2013 after a series of construction delays in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi incident in Japan, said Wang Binghua, board chairman of the State Nuclear Power Technology Corp. The facility will be the first to use Westinghouse Electric's AP1000 design. "Both the SNPTC and Westinghouse have agreed that the new reactors are able to survive the same shock experienced by the Japanese plant," said Wang.
