Dinneen: Brazil's protectionist measures hurt U.S. ethanol exporters

Tariffs imposed by Brazil are putting American ethanol producers at a disadvantage, writes Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association. U.S. ethanol exports to Brazil fell sharply in 2012 because of protectionist measures enacted by the Brazilian government implemented in the past 18 months, Dinneen notes. "While the U.S. government has made every effort to remove all of the perceived barriers to imports of Brazilian ethanol ... the government of Brazil is repaying this effort by restricting the ability of U.S. ethanol producers to access Brazil's fuel market," Dinneen writes.
