The gender ratio in India after years of sex selection favoring boys is seen as partially responsible for the high rates of crime, including rape, sweeping the country, write Anjani Trivedi and Heather Timmons. "Certainly violent crime against women increases as the deficit of women increases," according to Valerie Hudson, a co-author of a 2002 study of gender imbalance in Asian countries.
