Wis. hospitals hiring more APRNs to address physician shortage

The number of advanced practice registered nurses and certified registered nurse anesthetists working in Wisconsin hospitals increased by 55% and 38%, respectively, from 2009 to 2011, according to a report by the Wisconsin Hospital Association. The growth can be attributed to the quality care provided by advanced practice nurses and to the shortage in primary care providers, the association said.
