Analysis: Lawmakers want tax overhaul, but for different reasons

Lawmakers in both political parties would like to revamp the U.S. tax code, but they don't necessarily share the same goals for such a rewrite. Whereas Democrats want to use a rewrite to bring in more revenue, Republicans generally want to simplify the tax code without collecting more money. "Unfortunately, we're in for another partisan battle about whether there should be tax increases," said Martin Sullivan, chief economist at Tax Analysts.
