Bechtel tapped for first phase of $1.8B N.J. offshore cable project

Atlantic Grid Development hired Bechtel Group, the Hoover Dam builder, as engineering and construction contractor for the first segment of the proposed $1.8 billion New Jersey Energy Link offshore wind transmission project. The project, which could be built in three phases, would have the capacity to deliver up to 3,000 megawatts of wind-generated power. "This will jump start an industry that will provide 20,000 jobs in New Jersey and gigawatts of long term, clean energy," said Rick Needham, director of energy and sustainability for Google, which is one of the investors in the project.
