FDA mulls subjecting metal hip implants to tougher oversight

The FDA has proposed requiring makers of metal-on-metal hip implants to submit additional data to back the safety and effectiveness of their devices in order to continue marketing them. The move is spurred by concerns that the devices can lead to soft-tissue damage and may require replacement surgery.
