Request to extend deadline on Oconee fire plan is denied

Duke Energy's request for an extension of the deadline to complete a new approach to fire protection at its Oconee nuclear plant in South Carolina was rejected by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Duke Energy continues to cooperate with the agency on the issue. "Oconee had requested additional time from the [NRC] primarily to complete the installation of one of the modifications, the protected service water system," said Sandra Magee, a company spokeswoman.
