Vermont Yankee plant can continue to operate, judge rules

Entergy's Vermont Yankee nuclear plant can continue to operate after its scheduled shutdown date this year, U.S. District Judge J. Garvan Murtha ruled. The facility secured a 20-year license extension from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, but Vermont objected to it, citing safety concerns. "The ruling is good news for our 600 employees, the environment and New England residents and industries that depend on clean, affordable, reliable power provided by Vermont Yankee," Entergy said.
