Review: Pediatric metabolic syndrome is poorly understood

The American Heart Association's scientific statement on cardiometabolic risk factors for children and adolescents says the clinical implications are not as well understood as they are for adult patients. The AHA says there is not enough longitudinal data to assess the risks of obesity, insulin resistance, lipid abnormalities and hypertension for future cardiovascular disease. There even are challenges in defining those conditions in children, according to report authors.
