Md. stem cell agency receives record submissions amid budget cuts

Although the Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission's budget dropped to $12.4 million this year, the agency accepted 141 submissions for research grants worth $45 million. "The commission is pleased with the number of applications received and we are extremely optimistic about the projects proposing collaborative research," said Karen Rothenberg, the agency's chairwoman. The commission is expected to decide on the applications by May.
