Verizon exec: No need for FiOS to join Netflix's CDN

Verizon Communications says it is still evaluating whether to join Cablevision Systems, wireless provider Clearwire and Google Fiber in Kansas City in accepting Netflix's invitation to join its content-delivery network. The streaming-video company says the CDN is a free method of managing bandwidth and cutting costs, but a Verizon spokesman says his company's FiOS network is strong enough to stand on its own. "We are their top provider in terms of quality at their customer level [other than Google Fiber] thanks to our robust FiOS network," the carrier's Bill Kula said.
