EU proposes new data security guidelines for tech firms

Large tech companies doing business in one of the 27 member nations of the European Union would be required to disclose security breaches or face sanctions under a new proposal. According to European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes, the regulations would apply to e-commerce companies and social networking platforms such as Facebook that have access to large amounts of private data.
