The American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology Foundation's updated guidelines for the treatment of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction aim to streamline care and save valuable time. The guidelines recommend a first medical contact-to-device time of 90 minutes or less, as well as the use of therapeutic hypothermia in cases of cardiac arrest and EKGs performed by EMTs for quicker diagnosis.
