Fresh-produce growers face tougher food-safety measures

More European and U.S. retailers are pushing for stricter food-safety regulations for growers and producers in response to increasing consumer concerns over food safety and labor conditions. Fresh-produce industry leaders believe that the next administration will establish a food-safety superagency that will be tasked to step up food-supply protection. Another industry also expects the next administration to scrutinize existing food-safety laws.
