With more people around the world living in cities, the implementation of home automation systems and smart-grid technology in urban areas will be crucial to saving energy in the future, Aaron Stern writes. Meanwhile, Pike Research surveyed more than 1,000 U.S. consumers and found that almost one-third of them didn't know what a smart grid is, while one-quarter were unfamiliar with smart meters.
