Report: Faster U.S. withdrawal puts rural Afghan areas at risk

A faster U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan would put local Afghan police units at greater risk of infiltration and intimidation by the Taliban and would increase assassination risks for local leaders, according to a report by a research firm linked to the Pentagon. "If you pull [U.S. special-operations forces] out ... the villagers are going to be the ones that pay the price," said Seth Jones of the International Security and Defense Policy Center at RAND Corp.
