Calif. infection data include ICU checklist compliance rates

California released its first public data on rates of preventable infections in hospitals and it includes the information on how well ICU staff follow safety checklists for central line insertions. Dr. Nick Mickas of John Muir Medical Center, which ranked poorly, said his facility has changed its practices -- including auditing employee hand-washing -- and by the end of this month will have gone one year without a central line infection in its NICU.
