A collaborative effort to boost women director ranks

Women in Film and the Sundance Institute aim to monitor and track the work and efforts of female filmmakers participating in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in hopes of bolstering the ranks of female movie makers. Organizers say the focus is examining why there are so few women working in film and media and what action can be taken to reverse the trend. Just 5% of the top 250 films in 2011 were directed by women. But 27% of Sundance films were made by females.
