IEA seeks to help countries craft shale-drilling rules

The International Energy Agency is working on proposals for shale natural gas drilling regulations amid concerns about the potential environmental effects of hydraulic fracturing. "We feel that a number of countries inside and outside the IEA are interested in improving these technologies, and this is something where we're working with them to collectively see what rules make sense," said Richard Jones, IEA's deputy executive director. The agency said it will concentrate on responsible drilling procedures.
